France

Why France?

The largest country in the European Union, France alone is a market of more than 66 million consumers. With excellent infrastructure and transport links, it’s also an attractive doorway to other European markets.

The French economy is well developed and its dynamic services sector continues to grow. Other important sectors include energy (nuclear), tourism, telecommunications, aerospace, biotechnology, transport, textiles and clothing, food processing, cosmetics, chemicals and agriculture.

Research and development is strongly encouraged, with the government offering a research tax credit and subsidies which can reduce the total cost base of start-up and tech companies by as much as 30% - that’s one of the highest rates in Europe, and these tax credits can even be converted into cash under certain strict conditions.

There are low costs to starting up a company and it takes just a few days. In its 2017 report analysing the ease of doing business in countries around the world, the World Bank ranked France as 29th overall. In the same report, France stood out in top position as the world’s strongest performer in trading across borders.

With a wide range of public universities and ‘grandes écoles’ offering a high standard of education, there is a wealth of highly-skilled and motivated graduates ready to work. French workers are also more productive than most of their European counterparts, with France ranking in the world’s top 10 for hourly labour productivity.

Meanwhile, France is the world’s favourite holiday destination, annually attracting more tourists than any other country. It’s also a popular destination for professionals, with Paris ranked as the number one destination for business conferences (2016).
