The Dutch IPT system provides for Freedom of Services insurers to write risk cover in-country without the requirement to form a local subsidiary.
Netherlands Insurance Premium Tax Law
The Dutch law for Insurance Premium Tax is contained with the Dutch Insurance Tax Act.
Dutch IPT Liability
The insurer is liable for the tax calculation and payment. EEA insurers operating on the Freedom of Services basis are required to appoint a local tax/fiscal representative.
Netherlands IPT Rates
The increase of the tax rate for IPT purposes took place on January 1st 2013 and went from 9,7% to 21% in order to match the VAT rate in the NL and is applied to all classes except the following, which are exempt:
- Life
- Marine
- Aircraft used for international transit
- Goods in transit
- Personal accident
- Travel
- Export credit
- Reinsurance
Dutch Parafiscal Charges
There are no Parafiscal Charges in the Netherlands
Payments of Dutch IPT
The event generating the payment of IPT in the Netherlands is the premium maturity date. Dutch IPT is payable on a quarterly basis and must be paid by the 30th of the month following the quarter end.
